About Raffles Place
Raffles Place was laid out in the 1820s as Commercial Square under the 1822 Jackson Plan and renamed Raffles Place in 1858. It was the city's main shopping and trading square for over a century.
From the 1970s the old shops gave way to bank towers. Raffles Place MRT opened in 1987, and towers such as One Raffles Place and UOB Plaza now ring the square.
