Marble Etch Repair & Shine Restoration in Singapore

Etch marks are the dull, cloudy rings and spots left when something acidic touches marble: lemon juice, vinegar, soft drinks, sauces, toilet cleaner or the wrong floor cleaner. The acid dissolves a thin layer of the surface. Etching cannot be cleaned off, but it can be honed out and the shine restored.

Why marble etches

Marble is calcium carbonate. Acids react with it and dissolve the polished surface, leaving a rough, dull spot. Granite and porcelain do not react this way, which is why a marble top can mark from a squeeze of lemon while the granite kitchen top next to it does not.

Does sealing stop etching?

No. Sealers stop liquids soaking in (stains), but acid still reacts with the surface. The best protection is quick wiping, coasters, and safe cleaning products.

Our process

  1. Check depth by touch and light angle.
  2. Hone deep etches with fine diamond pads.
  3. Polish with marble powder until the gloss returns.
  4. Blend the edges so no patch shows.

Frequently asked questions

Can etch marks on marble be removed?

Yes. Light etches polish out; deeper ones are honed and then polished.

Why did my marble get dull after cleaning?

Many household cleaners, including vinegar, lemon-based and some bathroom cleaners, are acidic and etch marble.

How do I tell an etch from a stain?

An etch is lighter and dull. A stain is darker or coloured. Some marks, like red wine, are both.

Does sealer stop etching?

No. Sealer helps against stains, not acid etching.
